Comienzo. José Guerrero

José Guerrero

Comienzo (Beginning)

Oil on canvas.  185 x 135 cm

Colour vibrates in this work: colour within colour: drawing with colour, the pattern crosses, fills and leaves its mark on the surface
In an interview José Guerrero said of colours:

"blue formed a part of my childhood. It was the colour used to paint the skirting boards at home - and was indigo.

Red, I can't say whether it represents something tragic. Red, we used red ochre in Andalusia, a red taken from the earth. It is not vermillion or anything like that but has beauty. Red and blue are the two most important colours for me."
