To mark the 2016 Christmas holidays, the Archaeological Ensemble of Madinat al-Zahra is organising a programme of free tours to show the values that distinguish the city of Madinat al-Zahra as an exceptionlly important cultural asset.
This activity forms part of the Andalusian government's work to achieve recognition of the caliphal city of Madinat al-Zahra as UNESCO World Heritage.
The exhibition brings together the work of Juan Carlos Martínez, winner of the I Call for Proposals for Photography Creation on Medina Azahara by the Archaeological Ensemble in July and on display from 16 November 2016 until 15 January 2017, inclusively, at the Museum of Madinat al-Zahra.
This programme aims to offer another way to engage with the site of Madinat al-Zahra. Visitors will be accompanied by specialists who will reveal the merits of its protected environment and the territory on which the caliphal city is situated through guided tours of the most important heritage and landscape features of the archaeological area, which has been declared Heritage of Cultural Interest.
In association with the Friends of Medina Azahara Association and the owners of the property, the Archaeological Ensemble of Madinat al-Zahra is organising a series of visits to the former Monastery of San Jerónimo de Valparaíso.
