Restoration of the original polychrome wood from the Casa Mudéjar

The restored objects belong to a Mudéjar alfarje ceiling, originally from the Museum headquarters. The wood showed considerable deterioration consisting of:

• cracks or fissures\ ;open in a longitudinal direction along the wood and microfissures,
• discoloration of the paintwork,
• marks due to the presence of insects during the life of wood,
• biodeterioration produced by fungus with white rot and brownish-grey or cubic rot,
• accumulation of muddy particles, dust and gypsum,
• presence of old iron nails and old galvanised nails from the 20th century.

Furthermore, one of the sections of wood had been repainted roughly. The wood had been stripped and finished off with a layer of varnish, and circular incisions had been made with a compass, to attempt to recover part of the design.

The restoration process consisted of the following:

• removing\ ; the deposits of dust and earth
• disinfecting and fumigating, by means of injection, impregnation and vacuum treatment,
• cleaning the section thoroughly\ ;in order to reveal traces of the original design.
• carrying out the consolidation, reintegration and final protection of the section
